BREEDING & ORDER

Garlic, breeding and ordering by Walter Oczlon

Breeding is a human success and development story and stands, among other things, for order and systematics, care and maintenance, but also for selection and eradication.
Breeding inescapably accompanies us through life and is essential, at least for feeding the world's population.
The theme of my book is to bring the naturally orderly nature of breeding into a sensitizing “superorder” through a pictorial, aesthetic arrangement. The chosen title »Breeding & Order” brings back memories of dark, terrible times.
But there are also dark times in breeding. Today. It is therefore no coincidence that all of my plants and animals are in a row.

Jury comments

"This book deals with bred plants and animals that were placed in specially designed organizational systems and then photographed. These systems are reflected in pages with corresponding punched holes, accompanied by short information texts in a concise, almost tabular form. The photographs show Variations on the same thing in an almost disturbing way. This concept finds its appropriate medium in book form, excellently implemented photographically and in terms of book design."
